The lawsuit, filed earlier this month, alleges the patient's refusal to vacate Room 373 has led to the diversion of crucial resources and prevents the hospital from serving other patients in need of acute medical care.

The hospital is seeking a state court injunction that would compel the patient to leave the premises. Furthermore, the legal filing requests authorization for the county sheriff's office to assist in the patient's removal if necessary, underscoring the severity of the situation from the hospital's perspective.

According to the lawsuit, the patient was initially admitted to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare for medical treatment. The hospital's legal complaint explicitly states, "Defendant’s continued occupancy prevents use of the bed for patients needing acute care," highlighting the direct impact on its operational capacity. These efforts included outreach to family members and an offer to provide transportation to assist the patient in obtaining necessary identification. However, these attempts have reportedly been unsuccessful.

Neither Rachel Givens, an attorney representing the hospital, nor hospital spokeswoman Macy Layton offered further comment when contacted on Wednesday, citing the active legal nature of the matter. They declined to provide details regarding the patient's initial medical condition, the total hospital bill incurred, or the specific type of identification that the patient reportedly needs. The lawsuit itself also does not disclose these specifics.
