According to authorities and the property owner, the shooting transpired on Monday evening around 8 p.m. following a dispute. Esteban was killed, and a second individual sustained a gunshot injury, receiving treatment before being released from the hospital.

Burke currently remains in custody without bail at the San Diego County’s Vista Detention Facility. A criminal complaint outlines the charges against him, which include murder, attempted murder, and shooting into an inhabited vehicle. Each allegation carries a recommended sentence of 25 years to life in prison upon conviction. Hsu described Burke as possessing an “angry demeanor” and stated he “wasn’t the friendliest person in the world.” Esteban, the deceased victim, had been invited to the location to assist a friend with landscaping, a detail Hsu corroborated, noting that Esteban had worked at the property previously.

The footage depicts a man, allegedly Burke, holding a shotgun while standing next to a pickup truck. While the video does not clearly show the entire discussion or what immediately preceded the argument between the man with the shotgun and the two individuals inside the pickup, it captures a tense exchange.

In the video, the man with the gun is heard issuing explicit threats to the men in the truck. "I got mucho friends in the policia, highway patrol. That's all right. You wanna die today?" he is heard saying. When someone questions his words, he reiterates, "You wanna die today? I will kill you right now. Don’t f--- with me. OK? You sabe? You sabe in Español or in Inglés?" utilizing the Spanish word for "know."

The confrontation escalates as the man with the shotgun then points the weapon inside the truck's cabin. The video shows the passenger grasping the barrel of the gun, leading to a struggle. The firearm discharges during the scuffle. Following the shooting, the man with the weapon is heard saying, "See, you f----d around."

San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Juan Marquez confirmed that investigators are aware of the video evidence, and prosecutors have reviewed it. Lt. Marquez stated via email that the "Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this matter."
